Better Employment Skills Training
"Employment is nature's physician, and is essential to human happiness."
-Claudius Galen

As treatment professionals, our goal is to foster independence in youth. One of the key building blocks for independence is stable employment. Better Employment Skills Training (BEST) group serves to provide youth between the ages of 15-18 the necessary tools to obtain and maintain steady employment. In addition to skill development, BEST group seeks to offer youth opportunities to build their self-confidence, which in turn will help them to be more stable, productive employees.

The 12-week curriculum offers 10 weeks of classroom/field trip experiences and an optional two weeks of job coaching. The groups are facilitated by trained professionals and held on the Candlelight campus. There is a dual-emphasis on obtaining a part-time job as an adolescent and planning for a long-term career. Classroom and field trip experiences include:

  • Filling out job applications
  • Keeping a job search log
  • Social skills in the workplace
  • Career interest inventory
  • Preparing a resume
  • Mock interviews
  • Information on sexual harassment in the workplace
  • College campus tours
  • Money management

BEST is available to males and females between the ages of 15 and 18 that are interested in increasing their employability and exploring future career opportunities. Referrals and additional information on class schedules can be obtained by contacting our Program Manager .
